Quirky, youthful and interesting P-Drama - Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri

A quirky story of friends turned to a lovely, mushy mushy couple. Their journey from friends to couples to marriage is bought on-screen with great performances by all actors. The ups-down throughout the drama period is worth watching. One of the few plots in P-Drama wherein the couples are neighbors and not related in any way (cousins).

Dramas from Pakistan are a good watch for their good storylines, decent on-screen romance (limited touching, speaking through eyes than acting it out) and great performances. OSTs are like cherry on top. The young actors in 'Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri' put life into the characters of Zubi and Siam. Also, this drama have definitely moved beyond holding wrists which is a fresh change. Any thing in limit is always good for eyes.

Synopsis/Plot

Zubi and Siam are neighbors and childhood friends. Zubi is bought in a joint family with her parents, elder sister Roshna, uncle-aunt and cousin Daniyal who is to wed Roshna. Being youngest child of the family, she is loved and pampered by all. Her father wishes her to be a doctor. Siam on the other hand is bought up by his parents in nuclear family and is the only child.

As they enter youth, they all in love with each other and start their youthful romance. Meeting on terrace at night, sharing food, sharing gifts, meeting post college, commuting together, etc.. Eventually their affair is bought to light to their respective families. Thus, starts the main crux of the drama.

Right decisions at wrong time are as fruitless as wrong decisions at right time.

The families reject their offer to get engaged and try to tear them apart. Zubi' family tries to engage her to someone else , which is ruined by Siam and creates more distance between the families. Daniyal being son/son-in-law hurts Siam physically.

The indecisiveness, the hurry and fear of losing each other led Siam and Zubi to elope 1 night and get married. The shock of Zubi' actions results in Zubi' father getting hospitalized. They face multiple challenges, get married and post-marriage, in the flow of events, Siam and Zubi get into argument and Zubi leaves Siam after tearing up the marriage certificate. Daniyal in fit of rage, finds Siam and trashes him to near death, making him critically ill.

On breaking up with Siam, Zubi returns home but is rejected by her family and most importantly her father. She moves with her maternal aunt and completes her medical education and starts working. She transforms into a confident person. Meanwhile, Siam is taken care by his parents and post hospitalization, his family moves away to another city. He pursues music and establishes himself. Both, still yearn and miss each other; and are no longer the carefree and happy-go-lucky people.

Over period of time, Zubi' family start accepting her and in course of talks show displeasure with Siam, who did not hesitate to play with their family' honor by making Zubi elope. Considering her family' view about Siam, Zubi does not reveal their marriage' secret.

As faith has to work up, Siam' grandfather becomes acquainted with Zubi at her aunt' place. Her cousin works as model with Siam and falls in love with him. Eventually, when Siam moves in with his grandfather, Siam and Zubi face each other. Zubi rejects the proposal to unite with Siam and prefers her family over him. This works as nail in the coffin about the end of their relationship.

Zubi moves in with her family, and Siam' family return to their home (Zubi' neighbors). After much apprehensions, Roshna' firm stand for Zubi, grandfather' intervention, both families agree to meet over to resolve the issue of "secret marriage" . At the end, both the families settle their differences, and get Zubi and Siam engaged without compromising on their family relationships. The drama ends on a happy note.

Why the drama hits right chords:

• Though it starts with typical plot of friends turned lovers, and seems to be easy storyline; it eventually turns realistic.

• The cute moments between leads, their realization for each other are well shot.

• Considering the orthodox family values which is still prevalent in many countries/families, the family' reaction, their importance to family prestige over their children' happiness is just true in most of the families .

• The nature of revolt we see in today' young generation is highlighted by showing leads eloping without thinking about the consequences.

• Real-World Challenges: After eloping, leads come to face the harsh realities of outside world. The people they met, events not working out as planned, their vulnerability with respect to real world is depicted with finesse. How they collapse in face of the world, makes them realize how immature and in-haste is their decision. Why and where are they wrong? Why they could not stand-by their decisions?

• The most drastic plot is how the leads mature overnight once they give up on each other. Being away from family and each other, makes them realize value their families.

• The maturity of Siam' parents in handling the entire plot. They try to amend things with Zubi' parents but are humiliated and insulted. They measure their son' happiness over their own egos and standards. They are willing to do the best for their child.

• How Zubi' parents realize their mistake and without hesitation seek apology from Zubi and Siam. They finally agree to their marriage thereby supporting their children' over societal norms.

• Daniyal too accepts his mistake and apologizes to Siam to let bygones be bygones and move forward with fresh start.

Special Mention : Roshna - The most well-written character and exceptionally portrayed by Noreen Gulwani

• She is Zubi' elder sister and married to her cousin Daniyal.

• She is a sister/friend/daughter any one would wish for.

• She protects as well as criticize Zubi as needed.

• She reprimands Zubi & Siam for her childness over their immature decisions.

• She confronts them time and over again to not take rash decisions. She guides them to pursue their love at right time.

• She makes Daniyal realize how he is wrong in beating Siam. How he should have acted more maturely and considered Zubi' happiness over prestige issues.

• She makes her parents understand that Zubi still wants to be with Siam but not without her family' support. That she will always choose her family over Siam as she is "AFRAID' to seek her own happiness and speak out for it due to past events.

I strongly recommend to watch this Quirky, youthful and interesting P-Drama - Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri. Watch is without any prejudice and you will thoroughly enjoy the same.
